Blueprint Gaming’s Alex Naspe on how its newly rebranded suite of engagement tools is redefining retention for operators.
When Blueprint Gaming unveiled its newly rebranded Blueprint Retain suite earlier this year, the move was not just about giving its promotional tools a new look. It was about bringing together years of development in player engagement under a single, cohesive identity – one that reflects the company’s mission to make retention simpler, smarter and more effective.
Following the suite’s successful post-rebrand debut with Rank Group, iGaming Expert caught up with Alex Naspe, Head of Marketing Intelligence at Blueprint Gaming, to find out how Retain is helping operators connect with players more dynamically and efficiently.
Building tools that do the heavy lifting
“At its core, Retain does exactly what it says on the tin,” says Naspe. “These are tools designed to help operators keep players engaged for longer, but in a way that’s both distinctive and easy to manage.”
From Free Spins and Win Spins, to Chained Bonusing, Super Mode Drops and the long-standing Jackpot King and Rapid Fire Jackpots, each product in the Retain suite has been created with one guiding principle: make it simple for operators and rewarding for players.
“The goal was to remove as much of the operational burden as possible,” Naspe explains. “Operators shouldn’t need a dev team or a long testing cycle. We handle the heavy lifting, they just check the setup and go live.”
That “light-touch” philosophy is paired with an equally strong focus on bonus spend efficiency, a crucial consideration in tightly regulated markets. “Efficiency of spend is the Holy Grail,” he adds. “Every promotion has to work harder. Our tools are designed so that bonus budgets deliver genuine player value and can’t be abused.”
Surprise, delight and differentiation
A defining characteristic of Blueprint Retain is its emphasis on surprise and delight. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the Chained Bonusing feature, which creates dynamic player journeys that evolve through gameplay.
“You can set hidden triggers, thresholds players don’t see,” says Naspe. “So a player might reach their 50th spin and suddenly get an unexpected reward. Those surprise moments are key to loyalty. They make the experience feel personal and memorable.”
Operators can link these moments into longer journeys with overt / published offers, such as “stake £5 to get 10 more spins.” This creates a gamified progression that mirrors the interactive experiences players expect from entertainment apps and console games.
“Instead of a one-off free-spin drop, you’re guiding the player through multiple stages of engagement,” Naspe explains. “You’re rewarding their time and encouraging them to stay in the game.”
The same thinking inspired Win Spins, an enhanced version of free spins that eliminates dead spins and guarantees a win every time. “We know early wins increase the chances of players returning to a title,” he says. “Win Spins ensures that positive start.”
Why Blueprint Retain, and why now?
As Blueprint’s portfolio of promotional mechanics expanded, the company recognised the need for a unifying identity. “We were talking to operators about individual tools, but as we added more, it became clear we needed an umbrella brand,” says Naspe. “Blueprint Retain does exactly what it says – it keeps players engaged and active.”
The rebrand also highlights the advantages of working with Blueprint directly rather than via aggregators. “If you integrate through an aggregator, you might get free spins, but not the full Retain experience,” he notes. “Operators who come directly (to us) get access to the complete suite and often discover tools they didn’t realise we offered.”
Continuous refinement through data
Although the rebrand represents a strategic milestone, Naspe stresses that Retain remains an evolving ecosystem. “We’re always learning from data,” he says. “If we see that longer Super Mode sessions perform better than shorter ones, we adapt our recommendations and product demos accordingly.”
That data-led approach recently prompted the inclusion of jackpots in the suite. “Jackpots are proven retention drivers,” Naspe explains. “Some players chase the big win with Jackpot King; others prefer smaller, more frequent wins with Rapid Fire. Bringing both into Retain underlines that these are long-term loyalty tools.”
In-game engagement over everything
While gamification has become a buzzword across the industry, Naspe is quick to point out that strong content still does the heavy lifting. “You can’t make bad content successful with good tools,” he says. “If the game itself doesn’t engage, players won’t stay. What Retain does is get more eyes on great content and keep them there longer.”
For Blueprint, the key lies in in-game rewards rather than pre- or post-session promotions. “Players are used to instant feedback – every app or console game rewards progress in real time,” Naspe explains. “That’s why in-game features like Super Mode Drops and Chain Bonusing work so well. They reward players at the exact moment of engagement, creating a direct link between play and reward.”
Selective partnerships and trusted launches
The decision to debut Retain post its rebrand with the Rank Group was no coincidence. For Naspe, collaboration with the right partners is as important as the technology itself.
“Understandably, we can’t have these tools everywhere,” he says. “If everyone offers the same promotion, it stops being differentiation. We look for partners who understand what we’re trying to achieve, who see the value in something unique and are prepared to get behind it.”
Operators like Rank provide not only reach but also valuable insight. “They help us refine the details – that last 10 per cent that only comes from real-world feedback,” Naspe notes. “It’s a two-way partnership built on trust. The fact that our partners are already asking what the next tool will be tells us we’re doing something right.”
What sets Retain apart?
Asked what makes Blueprint Retain stand out, Naspe is direct: “Everyone has free spins. Not everyone has Win Spins, or Chained Bonusing with hidden triggers, or customisable drop mechanics that don’t require a minimum bet level.”
He believes the suite’s unique mix of creativity, inclusivity and practicality gives it an edge. “Our tools are designed to reward all players, not just high spenders,” he explains. “And from day one, our mantra has been: minimal work for the operator, maximum impact for the player.”
That philosophy runs deep through Blueprint Gaming’s culture. “We’ve always tried to do things our own way,” Naspe concludes. “Blueprint Retain reflects that – it’s about building promotional tools that feel different, perform better, and deliver real results without adding complexity.
