Merkur Group has finalised its acquisition of Gaming Arts, as it looks to engage the US iGaming market.

This deal marks the return of the German developer to the US market, after previously receiving a supplier licence for Nevada. At the same time, the Nevada Gaming Commission also approved the takeover of Gaming Arts.

“The acquisition is a key element of our re‐entry strategy into the US market, one of the most respected and strictly regulated gaming markets worldwide,” commented Dominik Raasch, Management Board Member, Merkur Games.

“With Gaming Arts, we are now able to place Merkur products directly in a wide range of US jurisdictions. This marks an important step in expanding our international growth beyond European borders.”

As part of the acquisition, which was completed on 15 September, Gaming Arts’ portfolio of slot machines, games, bingo and keno products will operate under the Merkur Group umbrella.

Gaming Arts is licensed in more than 155 jurisdictions, including North America, Latin America and Canada.

The pair’s association began in 2023, when Merkur announced an agreement to collaborate with Gaming Arts with a focus on the development and supply of casino games for casinos across North America.

“This partnership elevates everything we’re doing at Gaming Arts. With Merkur’s global reach and resources behind us, we are positioned to deliver bold innovation and world-class execution like never before. We’re energised, aligned and ready to write the next great chapter in this company’s story,” said Gaming Arts’ CEO, Robert Ziems.

Merkur has predominantly focused on Europe, holding a presence in its home country of Germany, as well as the UK, Spain, Serbia, the Czech Republic and the Netherlands.

The supplier first gained a Nevada licence in 1998, but withdrew from the US market in the early 2000s.

Elsewhere, Edict Gaming, a subsidiary of Merkur, gained approval from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (ACGO) to provide online games in the Canadian province.

On its latest expansion, Lars Felderhoff, Chair of the Management Board of the Merkur Group, concluded: “This facilitates exciting growth opportunities in North America, strengthens synergies within Merkur Group, and contributes meaningfully to our global expansion.”
