Spillemyndigheden, the Gambling Authority of Denmark, reported a 6.5% increase in online casino revenue for March 2025 as the sector continues to lead the market.

Overall, total gambling expenditure displayed a modest uptick of 1.4%, as online casino represented almost 50% of March’s DKK 635m (£71.6m) gross gaming revenue (GGR) across all verticals.

Online casino generated DKK 330m GGR in March 2025, compared to DKK 310m in the same period of 2024.

On the other hand, a shift in consumer behaviour has seen players move away from land-based activities, as revenue declined for both gaming machines and land-based casinos.

The sectors generated DKK 97m and DKK 27m, respectively, down from DKK 106m and DKK 28m in the previous year.

The monthly report also revealed a marked shift in player behaviour, as the ratio of online gaming on mobile increased from 60% to 40% in favour of mobile in March 2024, to 68%-32% in March 2025.

Following the introduction of new regulations, effective 1 January 2024, licensed operators in Denmark can now offer commercial bingo services under Denmark’s expanded regulatory framework. Revenue for the sector was included in the report for the first time, and for the first three months of its operation, the vertical generated a total of DKK 7m GGR.

The Danish Gambling Authority has also published its annual report, The Gambling Market in Numbers 2024, which presents performance data from the country’s regulated gambling industry for the previous calendar year, as well as reviews the country’s responsible gambling measures, including the ROFUS self-exclusion system and StopSpillet helpline.

Total gambling expenditure in 2024 reached DKK 11bn (£1.26bn), marking a 5.6% increase on the previous year.

Online casino accounted for nearly half of the DKK 7.27bn in GGR reported for 2024. Gaming machines were the only major vertical to record a year-on-year decline.

Fuelled in part by the increase in online casino spend, Denmark’s channelisation rate, which measures the share of gambling activity attracted via licensed operators, has also increased to 91.5% in 2024 — up 0.7% from 2023. Denmark now ranks fifth globally in terms of regulated online gambling market share.
