UKGC Spribe Suspension

The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) has confirmed the suspension of Spribe’s operating license.

The Commission has accused Spribe of failing to hold the required licence for the hosting services it was undertaking.

It followed numerous and consistent warnings from the Commission that ordered Spribe to cease hosting gambling activities in the absence of the required license.

The Commission stated: “We take a robust approach to unlicensed gambling activity and always expects the highest standards of compliance and integrity from its licensees.

“We expect the Licensee to promptly notify any parties impacted by service disruptions and to ensure that all operations are halted in line with the conditions of their operating licence until further notice.”

Since 2020, Spribe has held a software gaming license, however the latest ruling by the UKGC implies that this wasn’t adequate for its hosting activities.

According to the UK Gambling Commission: “If you are a gambling software business that provides facilities for playing casino games but only in circumstances in which you host those facilities through other operators’ platforms, then you may be eligible to hold a remote casino (game host) operating licence.

“This licence will allow you to provide facilities for casino gaming by means of remote communication (for example, a website) and only in circumstances where the following criteria are met.”

Spribe’s notable output comes from the crash game sector, having had significant success with its Aviator release. The Aviator title is currently available on a number of key UK operators including BetMGM and PaddyPower.

It underpins that the UKGC is widening its scope beyond operators and ensuring that it tackles the B2B space that the Commission believes is acting illicitly as well.

Spribe also has a license in Malta, Gibraltar, the Netherlands, Sweden and Ontario, among various other jurisdictions across Europe, Africa and the Americas.

Spribe also has an extensive portfolio of partnerships, including with a myriad of some of the UFC’s top athletes such as Merab Dvalishvili and Alex Pereira.
