Playtech has published the third edition of its Latin America-focused e-book underlining the significant appetite for betting engagement from Brazilian players.
The report revealed that 91% of players engaged with betting at least once a month, whilst 73% bet at least once a week. There was also a relatively strong understanding of the safer gambling toolbox from Brazilian players, with 51% setting financial limits before placing a bet.
At the heart of what Brazilian players desire from an iGaming platform is the user experience as it was revealed that 61% of players prioritise security and reliability as the most important factor, while 60% value fast and reliable payment methods.
Delving into player preferences within the Brazilian market, Playtech revealed that Roulette was the game of choice for a majority of the nation’s players, chosen by 55% as the most popular game, followed by bingo and slots.
Charmaine Hogan, Head of Regulatory Affairs at Playtech, told iGaming Expert: “Ensuring transparency in online betting is crucial for the well-being of both users and service providers, as it fosters a secure digital environment.
“Government involvement is essential in achieving this goal, as highlighted in our report. Since its initial release in 2022, the report has been updated to reflect the expanding market potential and the need to advocate for better industry conditions.
“Our commitment is to approach these opportunities diligently and promote regulatory measures that ensure a safe and responsible betting experience for everyone. 2025 is a crucial year for the gambling industry, with Brazil and Peru officially launching online regulations and Argentina and Chile also working on creating the necessary frameworks for successful markets in the coming years.”
The new e-book includes surveys conducted with 2,500 people across Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru and Colombia, looking into their online gambling experiences to expose public perceptions of the region’s market.
The studies showed that new regulations have led to increased confidence in the sector, with only 25% of those surveyed stating that they avoid betting due to concerns about fraud and gambling-related harm.
Peru saw the highest rate of consistent players, with 92% of respondents betting monthly, while 80% supported stronger regulations on betting advertising. For Argentinian gamblers, 77% of respondents advocated for stricter regulations on advertising.
Additionally, 88% of Argentinians supported stronger age verification to lower the risks of underage gambling.
Mor Weizer, Playtech CEO, stated: “We are pleased to release our third report on ‘Responsible Gambling: Consumer Insights and Trends in Latin America.’ Since launching the first edition in 2020, our goal has been to provide the sector with a deeper understanding of the region’s specific needs and challenges as the online gambling sector continues to mature and evolve with new regulations.”
Taking a closer analysis of the market in Chile, 63% of participants felt safer using legal platforms, despite only 15% considering themselves fully up-to-date with current legislation.
Having undertaken an overhaul of gambling regulations in recent years, Colombia emerged as the most mature market surveyed, highlighting the importance of fast and reliable payment providers as 58% of respondents saw this as the most crucial factor for selecting a platform.
Weizer continued: “This latest edition provides valuable insights into local market nuances across Latin America. Markets like Brazil and Peru present significant opportunities for growth and innovation. Playtech is excited to play a pivotal role as a technology partner, contributing to the sustainable growth of the online entertainment sector.
“By sharing these insights and fostering knowledge exchange within the industry, Playtech is committed to supporting the long-term success of the sector in Latin America, while also promoting a more responsible and consumer-focused gambling environment.”
Moreover, the report found that platform security had become a top priority for respondents when it comes to feeling safer while playing online, with legal platforms found to be critical for ensuring secure experiences.
Hogan concluded: “I am proud of Playtech’s role, not just as a technology partner, but as a champion of responsible gambling, contributing to the sustainable growth of the online entertainment sector.”
