Merkur UK has made a £100,000 donation to the Momentum Children’s Charity as part of a new, three-year partnership.

Momentum, based in the UK, supports children across London, Surrey and Sussex who are living with cancer or are affected by life-changing conditions.

The six-figure donation will contribute towards the charity’s abilities to deliver a range of initiatives, including the Momentum Echoes support programme, which helps families dealing with the loss of a child.

Mark Schertle, Chief Operating Officer of Merkur Casino UK, said: “At Merkur, we strongly believe that giving back to the communities we serve is important, especially when it comes to supporting those who are facing heartbreaking challenges.

“We are glad that our partnership, and donations to follow, will help Momentum continue its hard work, and we are looking forward to what lies ahead.”

Momentum’s Chief Executive Officer, Sarah Woods, also welcomed the new relationship with Merkur, emphasising that the funding injection will ensure the charity can ‘reach more families and respond to the growing demand’ for its services.

The partnership builds on Merkur UK’s ongoing charity efforts, after the operator donated £2,000 towards providing new equipment for charity groups through the 4 All Foundation and £2,350 to facilitate a 12-week fitness programme for domestic abuse victims.

With this latest donation, Merkur will play a key role in supporting the charity’s future vision. Momentum will be able to use the funds to expand the range of initiatives that it currently offers – ranging from family days out, respite options and offering a place for families to rest and reconnect with one another.

Merkur first made its support for the charity clear during its annual conference last year. However, through this new multi-year collaboration, the operator will continue to deepen its support for Momentum as it looks to make ‘a positive difference’ in the community.

Charitable causes

Merkur isn’t the only operator to voice its support for local charities in recent months. At the end of February, Flutter Entertainment announced that it would be offering its support to charities that support children and young people fighting cancer in 2026.

The first charity that the operator group identified is Young Lives vs Cancer, a UK-based charity that aims to provide emotional, practical and financial support to patients and their families as they go through treatment.

Flutter also confirmed that it would be backing the Cancer Fund for Children – an Irish charity that will use any donations from Flutter to expand its services across three major hospitals: St James’s Hospital in Dublin, Cork University Hospital and University Hospital Galway.

Meanwhile, Kaizen revealed plans to support education-focused initiatives, namely Resolution Projects – an initiative that supports student entrepreneurs around the world. The support will be provided via the Kaizen Foundation and will deliver seed capital, mentorship, and other resources required for students to flourish.

As many operators turn their attention towards corporate social responsibility initiatives, it’s likely that we’ll see more announcing their support for both local and international charitable organisations.
