Writing for iGaming Expert, Martyn Hannah, Co-founder and MD of online casino comparison site, Comparasino, states that consumers demand fast payments and especially instant withdrawals
In the age of instant gratification, online casinos must offer fast withdrawals if they are to meet the expectations of players. And when I say fast, I actually mean instant.
Why are instant payouts now a must for players?
First and foremost, online casino deposits are usually instant. So, from the player’s perspective, if the casino can take their money that quickly, they should be able to pay out at the same cadence.
This is sound reasoning, but most players don’t understand the different payment processes for depositing and withdrawing, and why payouts can be subject to delays.
But that doesn’t really matter – if players expect instant payouts, casino operators need to find a way to provide them.
Overcome trust issues
Fast payouts also foster trust between the player and the online casino.
Remember, online casino players are often promiscuous and regularly try new brands – usually because they have been enticed with a nice welcome bonus.
But this incurs some element of risk from the player – there’s no guarantee the casino is reputable (most players don’t know to only play at licenced brands) with delayed payouts often a red flag.
An online casino can build tremendous trust in an instant if they can process a payout and have the winnings with the player in a matter of minutes.
The retention benefits of this are staggering, especially when you consider the value of welcome bonuses is dropping in tightly regulated markets such as the UK where there are continued calls for more restrictions.
Players still jump around, but when the incentive of a 100% deposit match up to £50, the decision to stick with a trusted brand or twist for a small amount of bonus cash becomes harder to justify.
Engage lucrative but hard-to-reach audiences
Instant payments allow operators to engage new player audiences, especially Millennials and Gen Z, the majority of whom experience entertainment options from mobile.
Instant banking is a mobile payment option, tapping into the player’s mobile banking app to connect their bank account directly with the casino’s bank account.
These are players who don’t want to enter long card numbers and security codes to make a payment – they want to do it in a tap or two.
Right now, regulated online casinos can’t compete with the speed and ease of crypto casino payments, but instant banking is pretty close.
Less is more
Some online casinos in the UK are reducing the number of payment methods in the cashier.
Where once you’d have tons of options, now it’s mostly debit cards, PayPal and maybe Apple Pay. I’m guessing this is mostly due to limited usage and processing fees.
Interestingly, the casinos that have reduced the number of payment methods in the cashier tend to offer instant banking – whether that be via TrueLayer, Vyne or Trustly.
This is likely because the data shows their players either use debit cards, PayPal or instant banking and for me, this proves my theory that it’s now a must-have for online casino brands.
Education, education, education
The demand for instant banking is clearly there, but operators – and online casino comparison sites like Comparasino – still need to educate players as to what instant banking is and how it works.
There can be confusion between instant banking and bank transfer – the latter often being one of the slower withdrawal methods – and also how the technology works.
Some players can be a little concerned about having to log in to their banking app to make the transaction, although this can easily be overcome with a simple explainer or guide.
At Comparasino, we’ve seen demand for instant banking and fast withdrawal casinos rise significantly in recent months – a trend that we expect to continue throughout 2025.
In such a competitive market, instant banking is a way for brands to differentiate and this in turn can drive acquisition and retention efforts.
Ultimately, instant banking, especially the super-fast payouts they provide, takes the player experience to the next level, taps into consumer desire for instant gratification and fosters trust.
And for an online casino looking to make it in the UK, these things are non-negotiable.
