Ahead of SBC Summit Lisbon, Gaming Gateway‘s CCO, Gary Harrison, spoke to iGaming Expert about why there isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach to licensing and explored the biggest challenges that come with seeking approval from regulators around the world.

Can you lay out some of the key challenges when it comes to global licensing?

One of the biggest challenges is ensuring that banking, PSPs (Payment Service Providers), and third-party suppliers are all in place and aligned with the chosen licence jurisdiction. The service providers needed to support you along the way vary depending on your goals and jurisdictional aspirations. That’s where we step in; to make sure everything connects seamlessly.

How crucial is the localised knowledge of each market that you support clients in?

Local knowledge is essential. Every market has its own bespoke requirements across product verticals and B2B suppliers, and without that insight you simply can’t navigate effectively.

Working in a myriad of industries, are there any lessons or principles that can be transcended into the gambling industry?

Absolutely. We’ve always prided ourselves on building strong relationships across all sectors, and that approach has carried through into iGaming. It allows us to really focus on the client’s journey, and we provide the level of support they need at every step along the way.

How crucial is it to understand the local political landscape prior to expanding into a new market?

This is critical as iGaming moves so quickly, and we must stay one step ahead of the game when it comes to new markets and emerging regulations. By being proactive, we’re able to guide both new and existing clients in the right way.

Which markets are you looking to expand into when it comes to license issuing in the coming year?

Here at Gaming Gateway, we are very agile, and our aim is always to be at the forefront of newly licensed markets. Right now, we’re moving forwards with Anjouan, Nevis, Tobique and a number of other exciting jurisdictions.

Why is it so crucial that you provide a bespoke service as opposed to anything copy and pasted?

At Gaming Gateway, there’s no such thing as “one size fits all.” We’ve built our foundations on delivering truly bespoke and professional services. Every client matters equally, and it’s always about the journey we take together.

How pivotal is it to the success of your partners that you ensure money laundering reports and procedures are localised to each market license you offer?

It’s absolutely pivotal. Localised AML procedures determine which third-party providers will work with our clients – especially when it comes to banks, PSPs, and game suppliers – so it’s something we put huge focus on.
