In an industry where speed to market once defined success, control is fast becoming the new advantage. iGaming Expert sat down with Franz Gerhart, CEO of Vyking – a ‘future ready’ platform provider – to discuss why operators are moving beyond templates, how modular frameworks are reshaping platform strategy, and what it really means to build without limits.
SBC: Vyking has been vocal about shifting from speed to control as the real edge in iGaming. What do you mean by that?
Franz Gerhart: For years, everyone was obsessed with being the fastest, the quickest launch, the quickest integration, the next turnkey promise. But speed alone leads to sameness. Everyone is racing, but they are often running on the same track.

What operators actually want is the ability to steer. They want control over their roadmap, player experience, and data, not just a vendor timeline. At Vyking, we wanted to prove that speed and control can coexist. You can move fast and still build something that is truly yours. Speed gets you to market. Control keeps you there.
SBC: You have described Vyking as being built “like LEGO.” Can you unpack that analogy a bit?
FG: LEGO is the perfect example of structured creativity. You start with a stable foundation, but every piece can connect, detach, or evolve into something new. That is exactly how Vyking works.
Each part of the platform, whether it is payments, frontend or data is modular. Operators can snap in what they need, remove what they do not, and evolve their stack as they grow. Nothing is locked behind a vendor wall. We wanted to create a platform where the structure supports creativity, not limits it. Think of Vyking as a system of LEGO bricks for iGaming, solid, compatible, and endlessly rebuildable.
SBC: That modular approach comes through in your three-tier model: Core, Edge, and Flex. How do those tiers support different operators?
FG: We see the tiers as chapters in a growth story, not product packages.
Vyking Core gives new brands a fast start with a managed White Label foundation. Edge adds modular control, allowing operators to shape operations and build on top of their core. And Flex gives full autonomy, source access, a modular backend, and what we call Reverse Integration, which lets operators plug their own systems into Vyking’s infrastructure.
Whether you are launching your first brand or scaling across continents, you never need to start over. You evolve within the same ecosystem. It is not an upgrade ladder. It is an evolutionary path that grows with you.
SBC: Reverse Integration seems to be a major differentiator. What kind of problem does it solve?
FG: It solves the start over problem that plagues operators. Too often, when they hit the limits of their current platform, they are told they have to migrate. That means rebuilding everything, losing data continuity, and slowing growth.
Reverse Integration flips that model. It lets you bring your existing technology, your wallet, your game APIs, your loyalty system, and connect it directly into Vyking. You can modernize without losing what already works.
In short, it gives you freedom to build without breaking. Real freedom is being able to evolve your platform in motion, not rebuild it at a red light.
SBC: Payments are another big part of Vyking’s infrastructure. How does your approach differ from other platforms?
FG: Payments are the bloodstream of an iGaming business. They impact player trust, onboarding speed, and conversion.
Vyking connects to over 300 PSPs and wallets across fiat and crypto, all managed through a unified layer that supports local routing, switching, and faster approvals. At the heart of it is KingPay, our crypto native solution that powers hybrid transactions and fast market expansion.
We wanted payments to be an enabler, not a barrier. Our infrastructure solves the technical integration and routing challenges, allowing operators to focus on the commercial relationships and agreements that drive growth in each market.
Payments are no longer just about moving money. They are about moving markets.
SBC: Vyking also talks about having a boutique onboarding model. What does that mean in practice?
FG: It means we’re selective, not exclusive. Our goal isn’t to onboard as many operators as possible, but to work with partners whose vision and ambition align with ours.
We work closely with each operator to understand their tech maturity and long-term goals before onboarding. That way, every integration is set up for success, not just delivery. It’s a high engagement model designed for alignment, scalability, and shared outcomes.
Our revenue share first approach ensures both sides grow together. If an operator simply wants a login and a monthly invoice, we’re not the right fit. But for those who want a platform partner that builds alongside them, that’s where Vyking thrives.
SBC: Modularity and openness are buzzwords in the industry right now. How does Vyking define them differently?
FG: True modularity is not cosmetic. It is architectural.
For Vyking, openness means giving developers and operators access to APIs, SDKs, and real data, not just admin settings. It means allowing frontend and system level customization while keeping everything secure and compliant.
That is why we use the LEGO analogy. Creativity and structure coexist. The pieces always fit, and nothing collapses when you innovate.
Modularity is not about plug-ins. It is about ownership.
SBC: Finally, what is your message to operators rethinking their platform strategy today?
FG: Do not settle for someone else’s roadmap. The next generation of operators will not rent their technology. They will build it, own it and evolve it.
The era of pure marketing and operations is over. Success in iGaming now belongs to teams who understand technology, live by data, and design their own user experience in real time. Tech is not a department anymore; it is the language of competition.
Vyking exists to empower that mindset with the infrastructure and support to make it possible.
The next era of iGaming will be defined by builders, not buyers.
