President Ferdinand Marcos Jr of the Philippines has shown his appreciation to the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) for its contributions to the national government throughout the fiscal year 2025.

A Certificate of Recognition was presented by the President to PAGCOR Chair and Chief Executive Officer Alejandro H Tengco during the recent Government-Owned and Controlled Corporations’ (GOCC) Day celebration at Malacañang Palace, acknowledging the agency’s significant contribution to national development.

PAGCOR remitted Php5.67bn (approximately €80.6m) in dividends to the national government in FY2025, 50% of the organisation’s annual income and the fifth-largest contributor among 50 GOCCs during the year.

The Department of Finance noted that total dividends from 50 GOCCs amounted to Php147.15bn. Actual collections stand at Php140bn as of 8 July, with the remaining balance scheduled for remittance before year-end.

President Marcos Jr highlighted the importance of GOCCs helping to advance the Philippines’ development, adding that every peso strengthens the government’s ability to deliver essential public services.

The President said: “It is proof that sound governance and fiscal responsibility can create opportunities for our people, while sparing them from bearing greater financial sacrifice.

“You have shown that government institutions can deliver with professionalism, produce meaningful results, and earn the trust of the Filipino people.”

Tengco noted that PAGCOR’s recognition demonstrates its fiscal responsibility and nation-building commitment.

The CEO added: “Despite recent challenges brought about by global uncertainties, PAGCOR remains resolute in its commitment to support nation-building initiatives that help uplift the lives of Filipinos.

“We will continue to exercise fiscal discipline and work even harder to generate greater revenues for the benefit of the nation.”

Advertising overhaul

Recently, PAGCOR reinforced its responsible gambling responsibilities, announcing that all gambling advertising must now feature messaging about the newly formed National Problem Gambling Helpline (NPGH), launched back in May.

By 15 July, operators must ensure that all existing responsible gambling advertisements are replaced with materials promoting the helpline, including billboards, wallscapes, digitally displayed ads and other out-of-home advertising platforms. Ad replacement progress reports must be submitted to PAGCOR before 16 July.

Tengco stated: “By promoting the NPGH that we launched recently, we can offer professional support for individuals and families affected by gambling-related harm.

“Responsible gaming goes beyond awareness. It also means ensuring that help is readily available to those who need it most.”
