Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) has imposed a penalty payment on Adventure One QSS, the operator of the prediction market Polymarket, after it was found to still be active in the Netherlands one day later than it was supposed to be.

The Dutch gambling regulator gave Polymarket until 17 February 2026 to cease its presence in the country, or it would be sanctioned with a weekly fine of €420,000 should it continue to operate, with a maximum penalty of €840,000.

A statement from the KSA noted that the prediction market platform was still accessible one day after the deadline, adding that it was able to log in and play games of chance.

As a result, a collection decree was issued by the authority on 19 May 2026, imposing a penalty payment of €420,000 on Polymarket, which must be paid within six weeks of the notice.

The order is also still subject to a penalty, meaning that Polymarket can still receive an additional €420,000 penalty to reach the maximum amount of €840,000.

The statement read: “The Dutch Gaming Authority (KSA) imposes a penalty payment order on Adventure One QSS Inc. for an illegal gambling offering. Adventure One offers gambling on the Dutch market under the brand name Polymarket without possessing the proper license to do so.

“The Dutch Gaming Authority determines that Adventure One QSS Inc. has violated the imposed order and that a penalty payment of €420,000 has been forfeited by operation of law. The Dutch Gaming Authority proceeds with collection.”

Within the collection decree, Polymarket argued that collecting the fine is premature and should be suspended because they have an active objection pending against the original order.

The company stated: “Adventure One QSS Inc. disputes that the Gambling Authority had a sufficient basis on February 18, 2026, to conclude that the order had not been complied with and that the penalty had been forfeited by operation of law. Adventure One QSS Inc. states that it implemented and tested blocking measures on February 18, 2026.

“Although a test on that date still allowed access to the game of chance, this was probably before all blocks had been fully rolled out, which can arise from technical factors. Adventure One QSS Inc. states that this is not negligence, but a known characteristic of the technology, and that the measures were implemented as quickly and carefully as possible within the short grace period.”
