Former Ladbrokes and Superbet executive Ivan Gojić is taking a new role with Entain-owned Polish operator, STS.
Gojić will take on the role of Chief Sportsbook Officer (CSO) at the company while also holding the concurrent position of VP of Sportsbook for the wider Entain CEE group, of which STS is the primary holding.
He will be tasked with overseeing sports betting activity in Poland, starting this month. His tenure at Ladbrokes Coral but particularly his experience with Superbet, the market leader in Romania, will likely be extensively leveraged in his new role.
Gojić first joined Superbet in 2017 as Head of Risk Trading and completed a nearly eight-year tenure with the company this month in the capacity of Head of Trading Product to start his new role with Entain.
“It’s hard to call it work when you’re doing something you love,” Gojić remarked. “It all started over 20 years ago – first from the perspective of a professional player, and later through a career that began and evolved in various roles at Ladbrokes.
“For the past eight years, I’ve been with Superbet. I am truly excited to begin this new chapter of my career with Entain, and I sincerely hope to bring value to the fantastic team that has led STS to the very top in Poland.”
New sportsbook leadership for STS’ new era
STS is the long-time market leader in Poland, having consistently reported strong turnover over the past few years. Poland is in turn one of the most valuable, but also very competitive, markets in Eastern Europe – itself a very vibrant and at times oversaturated market.
Gojić joins STS at an important moment in the company’s history, with the company having been purchased by FTSE100 gambling group and the second largest in the world by revenue, Entain, in August 2023.
Entain secured terms to acquire STS Holdings in June 2023, supporting the takeover with a £600m bookbuild. The takeover formed part of a wider strategy of expansion via M&A at the time which also saw Entain CEE acquire Croatia’s SuperSport, though this acquisition strategy appears to have slowed down in recent years.
Gojić’s role as a sportsbook lead at Entain and CSO at STS will likely see his experience of sports betting on other well-established yet competitive Eastern European markets – experience he discussed on a recent SBC digital event – applied to STS’ mission of retaining leadership in Poland, where it has market share in excess of 50%.
Radim Haluza, CEO of STS, said: “We warmly welcome Ivan to our team. He is an outstanding expert in trading, risk management, and broadly defined product development in the iGaming sector.
“I am confident that his experience and past achievements will help both STS and the entire Entain CEE Group stand out even more in their respective markets. Our goal is to continuously improve our product and offering to strengthen the position of our companies in Poland and Croatia. Ivan’s support will certainly help us implement the #united strategy more effectively.”
