iGP – Dirk Camilleri: player appetite for crypto can fuel new era of innovation

Dirk Camilleri, Chief Product Officer at iGP, emphasised to iGaming Expert that the firm was eyeing a move into crypto for a significant amount of time, as extensive feedback from clients underlined the industry’s appetite for digital currency.

Speaking to iGaming Expert at ICE Barcelona, he emphasised that tapping into crypto enables operators to unlock a new audience and raise their ceiling in terms of player engagement.

Central to the firm’s success has been an extensive planning process before expanding into the crypto space.

Camilleri revealed there was “research, user-testing, prototyping and gathering feedback from customers, essentially a lot of planning went into the product and we are really happy with the outcome and the hard work of the team being very well received.”

One of the key elements of the crypto audience is that they are a younger generation of players that are increasingly tech-savvy and with an underlying appeal for transparency and efficient transactions.

The rise of crash games is also something that has been fuelled by an increasing number of crypto players within the iGaming space, according to Camilleri, as he revealed that the growing level of crypto adoption is elevating industry innovation.

He emphasised that as crypto grows, the industry shouldn’t be afraid to “experiment and try new things”, evolving into a new era.

In terms of technological advancements, Camilleri revealed that AI could be key to enabling the wider adoption of crypto payments within iGaming.

iGP is also intensifying its focus on the omnichannel experience through the launch of new terminals, which look to enrich the retail experience for both sports and iGaming players.

The terminals are initially aimed at penetrating the LatAm audience before expanding into the Asian market.

“You simply can’t go to LatAm without sports – this will be the demand and we have tailored these terminals essentially to give the LatAm players what they are used to and we are sure they will be a major success in the market”, concluded Camilleri.
