Evolution’s live dealer studio in Pennsylvania has racked up a second fine this year, this time related to a power outage.
The game provider appeared before the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) this week and agreed to pay a $25,000 fine for failure to record surveillance footage this past October. While the surveillance cameras continued to work during the outage, the server failed, resulting in the failure to record the 14 gaming tables in the studio.
Evolution explained to the board that it took 44 hours to resolve the issue despite the tech team on site immediately noting the power outage. State regulations are required to have contingency plans on its surveillance equipment in the event of a power outage, which was not the case in this incidence.
“There were multiple failures that day,” Evolution Head of Compliance for North America Jeff Patchen. “It took a while to understand the true impact of everything that occurred with the power outage.”
Evolution accepted the fine and apologized for the issue. The group also paid $2,500 to cover the cost of the investigation. The consent agreement between PGCB and Evolution includes updates to the Evolution system to ensure this will not happen again in the future.
This fine comes on the heels of a $7,500 fine from August related to a lewd trespasser in the Philadelphia-area studio. In January 2023, a man managed to circumvent several security checkpoint at the studio and find his way into the ladies locker room area. He then exposed himself to female staffers and “inappropriately touch himself”.
PGCB levied the fine for Evolution’s security failings, which should have included a process where all visitors are forced to sign in and obtain a name badge when visiting the property.
