DraftKings’ Moonshot integrates slots features into sportsbook

DraftKings has launched Moonshot, a new Major League Baseball (MLB) product for its sports betting players that appears to bring elements of iGaming to its sportsbook offering.

Players will be able to place a single MLB live bet that can increase in value based on multipliers during a game.

It taps into multiplier engagement that has been so successful in paylines in slot titles, given that their presence can be random and it is not required to occur for a player to receive a payout on their bet.

However, if a player cashes out or an out is recorded before the selected target is reached, the wager ends, essentially introducing a hint of crash game features to the sportsbook, although based on a sports outcome instead of a random number generator.

Corey Gottlieb, Chief Product Officer at DraftKings, commented: “DraftKings continues to lead the way in live betting by delivering innovative ways for fans to engage with the game as it happens.

“Moonshot adds to the excitement of betting on a live MLB game, bringing a fun multiplier mechanic to the action. We’re always looking for ways to make live sports more engaging for our customers.”

Moonshot sees players place a live MLB wager before a team’s next qualifying plate appearance and select a target multiplier for a potential payout, which is tied to batter outcomes, each of which is assigned a predefined value (i.e. Double: +2x).

Customers can cash out at any time before reaching their target payout or an out being recorded. A Moonshot bet is settled as a win if the selected target payout is reached. The bet is concluded if an out is recorded before the target is reached or the customer cashes out.

Initially, DraftKings plans to bring Moonshot to 18 jurisdictions across North America, including the US markets of Arizona, Connecticut, Colorado, District of Columbia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Michigan, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Vermont, West Virginia and Wyoming, as well as Ontario in Canada.

While the product is currently only available for MLB betting, DraftKings has yet to confirm whether it will be integrated into live betting for any other sports.
