Spribe’s licence under the microscope in Sweden

Spribe has been named as one of three suppliers that are set to be put under the microscope by Sweden’s regulator.

Supervision has been initiated to check the compliance of Spribe OÜ,  Epic88 Ltd and Gamomat Distribution GmbH related to manufacturing, providing, installing or modifying gaming software for unlicensed operators, according to Spelinspektionen.

Doing so would contravene the provisions set out in Chapter 11, Section 6e of Sweden’s Gambling Act.

Alongside Sweden, the supplier is licensed in Malta, Gibraltar, the Netherlands and Ontario, among various other jurisdictions across Europe, Africa and the Americas.

‘Technical licensing gap’

It follows challenges for Spribe in the UK, after the UK Gambling Commission suspended the firm’s licence in October, accusing the supplier of failing to hold the required licence for hosting the services it was undertaking.

Spribe has held a UK remote gambling software licence since 2020, with no interruptions.

However, enforcement by the UKGC determined that Spribe had been hosting casino games on behalf of operators without the appropriate remote casino game host licence.

In response, Spribe acknowledged the regulator’s position in a statement describing the issue as “a technical licensing gap” that was not recognised during its original 2020 application.

“Spribe applied for and was given a remote gambling software licence in 2020. However, our business model also requires a remote casino game host licence. That is a technical licensing issue that was not recognised in the original application process in 2020,” added the statement.

The company confirmed that it is now preparing a licence variation application to add the required permissions for remote casino game hosting and is working “urgently to ensure full technical and legal compliance.”
