MGA lambasts illicit platforms impersonating licensed operators

The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has once again called out websites for misleading customers and masquerading as licensed operators.

It continues a trend of spotlighting action that has been undertaken by the authority throughout the year so far against unlicensed platforms, as it seeks to protect players from unregulated operators.

In a statement, the MGA listed the following websites that it has identified as impersonating a MGA-licensed platform:

The authority said: “The MGA is hereby declaring that it has no connection with the above listed URLs and any other website, platform and/or entity impersonating the Authority and/or MGA-licensed operators.

“Any reference to the MGA and/or gaming licence/s said to be issued by it, as stated on these domains, are false and misleading.”

The MGA also reminded players to check an operator’s licence status on its website before wagering on their platform, as well as to only play on regulated websites to make sure that they are protected by the country’s gaming regulatory framework.

In 2025, the authority reviewed 109 URLs, of which 42 were found to contain fraudulent references to the MGA or its licensees, adding these URLs to its publicly available list to help protect players.

Charles Mizzi, Chief Executive Officer of the MGA, stated earlier this month: “The challenge facing regulators today is not to regulate more, but to regulate better.

“Throughout 2025, we refined the way we regulate – strengthening our risk-based approach to oversight, improving engagement, streamlining processes, and making better use of data and technology to focus our efforts where they matter most.

“That is how we strengthen confidence in the Maltese licence, safeguard players, and support the long-term sustainability of Malta’s gaming sector.”
