Evolution CEO Martin Carlesund acknowledged that the supplier is continuing to face challenges within the Asian market, as it navigates the balance between tackling cybercrime and ensuring it doesn’t infringe on the experience of legitimate players.

Market productivity in Asia continues to be affected by not only the threat of cybercrime, as challenges are magnified in the Philippines and India, where regulatory shifts have been significant.

In terms of the countermeasures to the cybercrime that remains rife in the continent, Carlesund stated: “We are doing everything we can and maybe we did too much, so we will have to do a little less in order to find the balance.”

He added that doing too much is simply natural, as they were unaware of where the borders are when they undertook efforts to tackle crime.

“To address this problem, it is technically difficult and it’s very advanced, but we are doing it. My belief is that over time, we are finding the right balance, so in the longer perspective, I believe we are looking at a very good situation in the Asian market.

“Volatility in some of the markets will affect us as well and I simply can’t predict much more than that,” added Carlesund.

Although the Philippines market has been turbulent, Carlesund lauded a strong start for the firm’s new studio in the country.

“If I could throw more money at the problem for a quicker solution, I would do that, but I don’t see this as a money issue. We invest in the top-notch resources in the world to do whatever we can. We need to adapt to the situation we have.”

Despite the challenges, there was praise for the positive start to the supplier’s new studio in the Philippines, which the group stated underpinned its commitment to the region.

In Asia, revenue was down overall to €189.1m in Q3, a 6.5% decline on the previous year. Whilst it could be a long-term process, the task of turning around the company’s Asian market fortunes will be significant for the group as it remains a drag on its overall performance.
