Crown Resorts has announced that Martin Pakula, the former Attorney-General of the Victorian Government, will become Chair of the Crown Melbourne board later this year.

Subject to the required regulatory approvals, Pakula will join the board of Crown Melbourne on 1 May 2025, before succeeding Ian Silk as Chair on 1 July.

Commenting on his new role, Pakula said: “I am delighted to accept the role of Chair at Crown Melbourne and to play a role in its exciting future. Crown is an iconic business that is a critical part of Victoria’s economy, tourism and entertainment industry.”

As well as Attorney-General, Pakula has previously worked as the Minister for Tourism, Sport, and Major Events in the Victorian Government and is currently the Chair of the Australian Grand Prix Corporation.

David Tsai, CEO of Crown Resorts, noted: “Martin’s appointment comes at an exciting time as Crown continues to focus on innovation and growth. I look forward to Crown benefiting from Martin’s extensive industry and leadership experience.”

Pakula replaces Silk, who has been Chair of the Crown Melbourne board for the past two and a half years.

Crown Resorts noted that Silk helped the Melbourne casino regain its licence from the Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission and that he will remain as Chair until 1 July to ensure a smooth transition.

On his departure, Silk said: “It has been an honour to serve as Chair. I am extremely proud of what we have achieved over the past two and a half years, and I want to thank everyone at Crown Melbourne for their dedication and hard work.

“I’m confident Crown Melbourne will continue to thrive with Martin’s leadership.”

Tsai added: “I would like to express my sincere thanks to Ian for his exceptional leadership and the pivotal role he played in overseeing Crown Melbourne’s extensive transformation.”
